The Hartman Institute for Therapeutic Organ Regeneration, led by physician-scientist Dr. Shahin Rafii, is a research institute that employs a multidisciplinary approach to promote the advancement of organ regeneration and repair.
This initiative encourages collaboration among researchers, clinicians, surgeons, and entrepreneurs. Within the Division of Regenerative Medicine, our dedicated researchers have already created innovative technologies to harness the potential of tissue-specific organoids for repairing injured and malfunctioning organs.
Our mission focuses on diseases, such as:
- Gastrointestinal diseases
- Pulmonary diseases
- Cardiovascular dysfunction
- Neurological disorders and stroke
With the support of the Hartman gift, Weill Cornell Medicine is committed to translating discoveries into tangible benefits for patient care.
Potential Partnerships
The innovative approach of bench to clinic will significantly augment the Institute’s scope and capacity, to include all aspects of regenerative medicine, including partnership with bioventures and biopharmaceutical companies. This could be achieved through licensing of the WCM intellectual property and sponsored research agreements.
